What is the single most important habit you will cultivate in 2013?
The space on my finger is empty, so is the space in my bed. So I’ll make this my marriage vow, if I could, I’d open the tip of my finger and sign on the dotted line in blood. And this is what I give myself to: not a goal, not a destination, but the simple practice of showing up here in this space, maybe not this space exactly, maybe it will be in a notebook or a note card or on the back of a greasy grocery receipt, but to be in this space wherever I make it, the place where I try to turn the lightning into words. To show up even when it’s raining and my feet are wet, or the sun is shining and friends are calling, or when the words turn breach and the delivery is difficult. I’ll keep showing up after the honeymoon is over and there are stinky socks on the floor, when the ideas get stale and stubborn, when the paint starts to peel and needs to be stripped. It won’t always be easy and it won’t always be fun. I know like anything that’s loved it is destined to break my heart once or twice. But I have a feeling we might just have a lot of fun somewhere in the middle.
What the heck is this Reverb12 business? Find out here. I'm catching up, slowly, but the good news is I'm finally answer the prompts in order again! (Small victories.) I'll probably be working my way through the rest of these into the New Year, focusing on the forward-looking prompts in January.

I'd like to give you about seventeen hugs and say that once I've got fewer cardboard boxes in my life, I want to show up with you. I'll bring the tea.

If Kim brings the tea, I'll bring the wine. I, too, am thinking about space, my friend, and I love everything about what you described.

I have beautiful teacups and long stemmed glasses to contribute if you don't mind me showing up too! Wonderful post. xx
