Winter, you're finally here, you with your piercing eyes and icy breath. Tracy Mangold got it best, what I love most about you, your brazen stillness. You are the showstopper who walks into a crowded cocktail party and commands silence and respect with the tap of your heel.
I want to dive into the center of your frozen heart and be still with you. I will be so solid and unmoving, like an ancient ruin, that the snow will pile in drifts around me and the red cardinals will land on the tips of my eyelashes.
It's about time, isn't it? Thanks for the mention! It is indeed one of the things I love so dearly about Winter - the stillness. It is profound! It's deafening in so many ways - so tranquil. I want to savor it. I love it best at night - in the dark - the snow glistening in the moonlight - the air crisp and fresh. It is life affirming!

@Tracy--You are so so so right. the last 24 hours have been heavenly. I hope it sticks around for a little while!
@Wholly Jeanne--You are too kind! Thank you. I have not always been the biggest cheerleader for winter, but in the past few years I've been able to appreciate what the season brings.
@Mary--Thanks! That is the plan. I hope it sticks around. How's your winter going?

Beautiful! Winter stillness lulls me, and I want to hibernate until spring. I was feeling a little guilty about going so inward lately, but your post makes me want to celebrate all that the season brings! Thanks. :)

@Robin--Do not feel guilty for one second! I love that you have been going inward. I have been feeling it to and instead of fighting into it, I'm leaning in and it feels freakin' fantastic. I used to fight against winter, but now I see how necessary she is, the time to dream and rest before spring blooms.
