What's all this business about French Christmas?

  • My name—Noël—has been mispronounced, mislabeled, and mistaken since my parents bestowed it upon me one snowy March afternoon. It wasn't until a friend nicknamed me "French Christmas" that it came into focus. How much would our lives change if we could just see things differently?

I like your determination in this piece.

I love your tone in this, Noel. I love that it starts with "No." I love the refusals. Sometimes there is just as much power in saying no, in refuting and redefining the rules, as in being open and accepting to them.

I also love the notion of you returning to this life as a shooting star. It made me smile.

I agree with Roxanne. There is catharsis and energy in the word no that results in immeasurable positivity. Love it.

@Dragonfly--Thanks! I have been feeling determined lately.

@Tracy and @Roxanne--I love that idea of positivity coming out of "no!" I feel like so many, myself included, think of "no" as a negative thing. It really doesn't have to be.

Wowsher. There's conviction and power in these words, and I absolutely love it. I, too, love you starting with a definitive "no." That's my girl, I said right out loud to the dog. Agreed: no deadlines and one lifetime is not nearly enough time.

Absolutely. No deadlines. I love this. (thanks to @whollyjeanne for pointing me here today)

@Wholly Jeanne--Thanks for the thoughts! It's funny, because I almost wrote "Ummmm ... no." And then I thought to myself, "What's that apologetic um all about?"

@Alana--Thanks so much for stopping by! :)

To your No, I say a very definite Yes :) You're SO right. Starting a ticking countdown for a list of things to do might work for some people, but it would make me either panic or depressed. And neither of those states is a way I want to live my life.
