The Chicago Air & Water Show, which was today, is always a highlight of my summer.
When I was little we lived (for a time) close to an air force base. To this day when I hear the crack of fighter jets splitting the sky open, I am immediately five years old again, sitting next to my Mom in her convertible, with Tina Turner on the radio and everything in life infinitely simpler.
Back home in Seattle, we have Seafair weekend and I so miss the Blue Angels air show. Nothing gives you a rush quite like a jet plane buzzing your tower!

Ahhh...sweet memories and the fun of that convertible.

I lived next to an air base this past year and have very different memories from it. I am so thankful to you for this post, and for supplanting everyone's memories with the beauty of your own.

@Shannon--Exactly! This year we had the Thunderbirds, last year it was the Blue Angels. I love them all. :)
@Dragonfly--Yes, it sure was fun!
@Roxanne--I can only imagine how different those memories must have been. Thank you for sharing them with us here. :)

This picture elicited a deep, happy sigh from me. I haven't been to an air show in ages, and now I've got a craving.

There's an air show near our house in Georgia, but I've never been. Usually I just sit out on the deck and watch the planes go over. As a wee thing, I once saw the Blue Angels, though. It was a big thing - exciting - and it made my neck hurt.

@Kim-- I do love a good air show! There is nothing quite like the sound of the jet engines.
@Wholly Jeanne--The Blue Angels are amazing! They alternate with the Thunderbirds for the A&W show in Chicago. One time I saw one in person and he was super cute too. ;)
